QR code luggage tags that hide your address

A Locatid luggage tag hangs from your bag's handle on a strap with a buckle. If the bag goes astray, whoever ends up with it scans the QR code with their phone and messages you. Your home address and phone number aren't on the tag, and they aren't on the page the finder sees.

Are QR code luggage tags safe?

Safer than a tag with your address written on it, which anyone in a baggage hall can read. A Locatid tag shows a photo you chose and a QR code. Scanning it opens a page with your bag's photo, the name you gave it and your first name, and a way to message you. Your email address and phone number are never shown.

Tip: the name you give your bag shows on the finder's page, so pick one you're happy for a stranger to read.

If someone finds your bag

Let your lost luggage find you.

  1. 1

    They scan the tag

Any phone camera works. No app to download, no account to make.

  2. 2

They see whose bag it is

Your bag's photo, the name you gave the tag and your first name. Nothing else about you.

  3. 3

    You get the message

An email lands the moment they write. You chat privately and arrange to get your bag back.

At the airport

Airlines trace bags. People return them.

A Locatid tag works the moment a person has your bag in their hands, wherever that is. They scan, they message you, and you sort out the rest together.

While a checked bag is still inside an airline's system, the airline does the finding. If your bag doesn't arrive, report it at the baggage desk before you leave the airport. Airlines mishandled 4.9 bags for every 1,000 passengers in 2025, about 24 million bags, and transfers between flights caused 39% of the cases, according to SITA's 2026 Baggage IT Insights report.

Plenty of travellers also put a Bluetooth tracker inside. The FAA allows trackers in checked bags when the lithium in the battery is within its limit, and airlines can set their own rules, so check yours. A tracker shows where the bag is; the tag lets whoever has it reach you. How QR tags and trackers compare.

Questions

Questions about QR luggage tags

Are QR code luggage tags safe?

A Locatid tag carries no address or phone number. Scanning it opens a page with the bag's photo, the name you gave it and your first name, and a form to message you. Your email address and phone number are never shown.

What does someone need to scan it?

Any phone that can scan a QR code and open a link. There is nothing to install and no account to create.

Will I know if my bag is scanned?

You get an email as soon as someone sends you a message. A scan on its own doesn't send anything, but it appears in your History with the date and an approximate location.

Does the tag work abroad?

Yes. The code opens a web page, so it works wherever the finder's phone can get online.

Can I change the tag after it is printed?

Yes. Renaming the bag or changing its photo updates the page, not the code, so a printed tag keeps working.

Do I need a subscription?

Not for a single tag. The free plan covers one tag. Pro covers up to 10 tags for $4.99 a month. The printed tag is bought separately from Zazzle.
